Granted a lot of the top Youtubers pick up side hustles that stem from their fame but do the math on the amount they get per thousand views and you can see it's been a ridiculous run for a lot of these people just on ad revenue alone from YT

I don't think he makes all the money directly from ads, but it's all indirectly related to the YouTube videos.

Yep exactly, you are seeing a lot of that coming from the video gaming space as more and more people are watching gaming / streamers online. Many of them are migrating off of the YT platform to places like Twitch and Patreon because of the declining ad revenue for people who aren't big corps.
I met a guy the other day that had a friend that worked in the corporate world as a developer or something and then started a streamer channel for some PC game like League of Legends or one of the other ones. He clears like $380k now with ad revenue and donations from random people
