Help Me Buy A Car Thread v.ScottyB: WITNESS ME BROTHERS

thanks man. those are tempting but that body style of WRX is my least favorite and at those miles i just don't trust any of subaru's turbo cars on a stock tune or stock oil pickup. they're already uncomfortably at the peak of my budget and one engine knock means i'm into dangerous financial territory and i'll end up hating the car. the price/mile ratio is why turbo subarus just aren't on my list this time around. if i had been able to plan for this purchase instead of it being dumped in my lap things might be different

NO SILVER PLEEASSEEEE

already tried finding the BMW wago's in manual, or RWD manual in my price/mileage range. might as well be fishing for freakin' mermaids.

that'd be a hell of a feat. even if i could pull it off though, i'm not sure it would be a wise choice for extended drives with a family. and Jake's experience didn't seem too positive.

BMW people - talk to me about the N52. is it safe to say that you want to just get the fancy pants water pump out of the way as a safety measure upon purchase, if the car's over 50k miles old? or just drive it until it fails? i'm not super interested in having the yellow "overheat" light come on 250 miles into a 500mi road trip. would a PPI catch this or do they just go out in time intervals without warning?

VW people - from what i'm understanding, the TSI engines carbon up worse when you pussyfoot around in them, yes? would it be better then to actually say you want some higher miles on the car for a given year to show that the car is regularly exercised, vs sitting? or do driving habits alone simply keep the carbon at bay, like doing italian tuneups regularly?
