Help Me Buy A Car Thread v.ScottyB: WITNESS ME BROTHERS
#44
so i just got back from test driving this at a local dealer down the road. the price was low for the mileage so i knew i was walking into a trap but not sure how bad. at the very least i just needed to see how the size felt.

it is FUN. honda knows how to make a driver's cockpit and controls. steering is right-now fast, rifle bolt shifter, shortest-throw clutch pedal i've ever seen. it felt like driving a motorcycle. the K20 is gutless down low but very fun to hoon. good seats, good trunk, strong brakes.

but wow....it got some abuse in a past life and didn't age well. 6 previous owners, and it looks like all of them tried to screw with mods of some kind and haphazardly take them off. pulled bad to the right. the weather seals on the bottoms of the windows are disintegrating, and it reeked of smoke which was the last straw. had a giant 3" exhaust on it too and some kind of strut/spring combo none of which they alluded to in the ad.

great car. i get them. but its a pretty frantic experience. not sure if a fully stock one would feel like its got better touring legs.

in a stroke of good luck, i'm currently borrowing a 6-speed TDI coupe from my neighbor, before it gets bought back and turned into slag next month. looks exactly like this:

really nice and a very opposite character from the Si of course, but in general terms i get why people dig these. brought back so many audi memories because the steering/shifter/pedal feel is almost exactly the same. now i just need to find a GTI to drive locally.
