It took me 30 seconds to process what was actually happening, but eventually realized the car was automatically applying the parking brake because the driver door was slightly ajar. I personally think that's very intrusive and, perhaps, potentially damaging to the car because it only happens after you start moving. It makes me wonder what happens if the door was opened at speed. Surely BMW is smart enough to just give you an audio warning?

After the problem with the Jeep Grand Cherokees not being put into park correctly, I think most people would disagree with you. Especially the guy that got mowed down by his own Jeep and died.
