2012 or 2013 GTI with around 50-60k most likely. It seems to fit the bill for newish, reasonably priced, somewhat fun, and utility. They don't seem to have too many problems other than going through water pumps, but that has been fixed with an updated part from what I've been reading. I test drove one and surprisingly they have more room with the back seats down than the subaru does.
You can find fully optioned ones in the mileage range I mentioned above for around 12k. I'm just waiting on the right color and options package to show up nearby.
