so, minor update. STILL waiting on the birch sheets in Atlanta, the retailer got 8 of 11 sheets in and now they can't get the remainder from their vendor so they're trying to find someone else on the fly. so dumb...if i don't hear anything by the end of this week i'll see if i can grab the remaining 3 sheets from someone else in town while i'm out there so i can get everything and be done with the trip.
did a big home depot run this weekend for all the material for the floor. carriage bolts w/nuts, poplar 1x3's for the frame, 1/4" ply for the underside, and 3/4" foam insulation sheet for the interior of the floor sandwich construction. the stack of 1/2" used oak flooring planks will go on the top surface and that will be the actual floor we touch inside the cabin.
the poplar frame is together with pocket holes and glue, and next step is cutting up the 2 4x8 ply sheets into a set of 5x4's to create the total 5x8 footprint. then glue/nail, insert insulation, apply oak flooring and bolt to the frame. we're going to build a hidden under-floor storage compartment into the floor too so i'll need to cut that area out of the structure with a router and then built the actual box for the storage compartment. it'l be about 40w x 18h x 10d...i don't want the compartment hanging any lower than the axle. that will give us a secure place to hide fishing equipment, extra blankets, small electronics like chargers and a weather radio, and emergency gear that we don't access all the time so normal luggage storage won't be used up unnecessarily .
