How much rev-limiter-banging was going on? The rallycross courses I've run in western MD could all be done in 2nd to give more top-end, at the expense of some bogging through a super-slow turn or two (or you go back to 1st there).

Yeah, definitely. All of the back-and-forth shifting would only build more excessive heat from the clutches slipping.
Given it's a well-known trans and electronically controlled, I wonder if you could rig up some simple electronic control to force it into either 1 or 2 as an override to the shifter.
