many newer engines do great on the 20 weight stuff with the tighter tolerances and trying to cut drag losses for fuel efficiency. mazda knows their way around small engines so i think it'll be just fine for a commuter. if you were towing or running it really hard i'd be tempted to try a thin 30 weight or a robust 20 with good High Temp High Shear protection.
worst case scenario, do yourself a few oil analysis next year once the engine cycles out the first couple oil runs that typically have higher than normal metal readings from the original assembly process. once you see a trend over a couple changes, you will know for sure in case you need to put your conscience at ease :thumbup:
