I'd just get the crack filled. My mom had/has a similar crack on her VW windshield (same side and hers is longer) and our insurance didn't replace it. They only got it filled they didn't replace it. It caused my parents to switch insurance. Neither of them were happy about it. I asked them about it last night and we haves state farm now and my mom was saying it should be replaced completely if it happens again. The upside is getting is filled is cheap, passes inspection and even tho it's not back to 100% integrity it's still better than having it unfilled.
