My entire point being don't use your damn corolla as some holy piece of example they still break too and they're also boring as all fuck so I don't see the comparison. I'm salty as hell this morning. All cars break... but your average American / Japanese coolant system breaks less than the glass and otter blood design that seems to be installed in the average BMW. There is something to be said about simplistic designs that work... and work... and work. BMW decided it was smart to install plastic electric powered pumps that cost $500 and last 60k miles, the Japanese installed all-metal belt driven pumps that cost $50 and last 150k miles. Why? Tons of high HP cars use belt driven pumps... the weight savings are minuscule....
And yes, a Corolla is a "boring" car to drive, but it's also incredibly fun in that you can beat the shit out of it all the time and not care about door dings, maintenance, repairs, speed bumps, shifting in traffic. It will even AutoX with 4 people in it in a pinch. I have put less than $100 of maintenance (outside of tires/brakes/oil) into the car over 140k miles. The largest thing that has broken to date is a piece of plastic trim on the roof drop rail. And if I want to go faster, I have 2 cars that meet that need.
