Quote:GT body kit adds a few hundred lbs of useless weight, the 351 will also add more weight up front than you would want for autox. For that weight you are better off going w/ a 429-460, they weight just about the same as the 351 but provide more power. Best bet would be to find a stripper lx (84-87) w/ a 5.0 that's been worked already, finding one with a stroked 5.0 would be ideal (~the same power as the 351 but weigh less), it would kick ass at the strip w/ a NX shot and still preform well at autox. $500 is way to much to spend on a USED nos kit for a carbed motor, all you need is a 5-10lb bottle and a nozzle, make the rest yourself. Ratshack can offer most of the switches and the RPM switch can be tapped off the ignition for cheap. My brother and cousin have built tons of mustangs with nothing more than lunch money.

Good info...I have absolutely no clue what a nx kit for a carbed car runs...that was just what I would expect to pay for a complete and used wet kit. If we can do it cheaper, good.

What I didn't hear you say was: GT bodykit can be sold...and whatever parts came oem on it can be purchased cheaper, netting us a little more money towards the car. Or something like that.

Honestly, fund raising should come first. Money for a car should be collected and or raised...I think spending anything more than 500 dollars on the car itself will be too much but maybe determining an upper limit would be a good step as well. Once the money is in the club funds...then the real discussion on what kind of vehicle we can run should be discussed.

Also...this is a point I meant to bring up but hadn't yet. This car can serve as more than just a GRM competition car. What about all those freshman who don't have a ride to autox in? After this car has completed the competition, or maybe even before, we should bring it to autoxes and other motorsport events and allow club members to take turns driving it.
