Video Games Thread - Gamertags in 1st post
So! I finally got a new headset that's not a busted old Turtle Beach single ear I got for free with Gamestop points. There are so many mid and high end gaming headphones out there but I really had my eye on the Playstation Platinum ones that finally released this week. A Gamestop rewards coupon, a few old traded in games and a gift card bought this for me for free, but it's $160 on Amazon (still not available there yet) or Gamestop: http://www.gamestop.com/ps4/accessories ... set/135986

I was hesitant in the past to use a two ear headset because hearing voices coming out of the same place as game sounds was really disorienting for me. I must have just had bad experience with some other headphones because my buddy brought over the PS Gold headset and a Cloud HyperX he was testing. I liked that I could hear things I had never heard in the game before.

This thing is pretty incredible. MUCH sturdier and more well built than the Gold variants....the top strap is actually made of metal, it has a nice thick rubber inner cushion band and the earpads can be replaced if they get worn out, etc. You can tweak and load sound profiles like you could on the Gold set, although it is only supported by 3 games right now. But the biggest reason I bought it was for the oversized drivers and 7.1 surround / 3D sound capability. This should "future proof" them for a while as more games come out with 3D sound capability, they also work with Playstation VR.

Being able to hear sounds above and below you is sick! I played with them for about 4-5 hour straight until about 2AM last night getting sweaty in the crucible and I didn't have any discomfort at all. It did take a while to adjust the chat and game volumes to what made sense for me, but wow what a difference. Battery life is supposed to be about 12 hours which is pretty incredible, but I did recently buy a 10' micro USB cable that stretches from my PS4 to my couch gaming spot so I'm not really worried about running low on battery. The only drawback I can see so far is that they are pretty bulky so I probably won't travel with these. They also don't have a ton of noise cancellation other than for the microphone, which for me is a positive (ie I want to hear my wife if she needs me) but for some might be a drawback.

So having only a few other points of comparison, I have to say I am really impressed with these and being sold by Sony they are pretty much instant plug and play with the PS4. I do wish it came with some kind of stand, especially if it had charging capability, but for now it will set next to my controller on the couch Smile A+ would recommend
