Quote:I don't know how the fair market value is calculated, but If you were considering going with a 5.0 mustang, you should buy a 4-cylinder notchback. The value of a 4-banger stang is less than half that of a GT. And the notchback body style is much stiffer than than the more common hatchback. It would be pretty cheap to drop a carburated V8 in there. Any engine in the windsor family would fit that chassis. That means you could even drop a 351W in there. Add no2 via a plate system, and that sonbitch'll fly.
Chris and I have already found a listing for what I remember as an 89 Mustang...is has a 351 windsor already in it. 450 was the asking price...said it needed a oil pan and some motor mounts both of which would't be a problem. I believe it had an aftermarket intake manifold as well as a dual sidefed carb. Chris, if you could post that entire listing up that would be sweet.
We live in a fucking mecca for cheap cars...finding one will not be a problem.
Personally,
600 dollars in car and extras to get it running, 500 dollars tops in a used nitrous kit, and another 900 or so dollars in tires + suspension + drivetrain sounds really good to me. After that bitch is stripped as far as they'll let us I can't imagine it not doing decently in all aspects of the competition.
The 5.0 has soo much to offer in terms of aftermarket, tons of it being suspension related...I really feel that this would be a great platform.
Quote:2) If we go EFI, we make sure that wiring will be compatible i.e. OBD-I and similiar harnesses that can be hacked. As much as I hate carburetors, American Iron might be cheaper assuming that we have some members that know how to fool with those things. Carbs are very much like clitorises, absolute mysteries to me.
Andy, you know I'm all about the tubos and FI, but this is all about the cost effectiveness. Every motherfucker over the age of 50 goes on about how simple carbs are compared to a fuel injected set up....so I'm sure we can figure em out. I really think a carbed v8 with a large shot of nitrous is going to be the most cost effective way to make power.
Quote:3) May I suggest a 5 member committee composed of certified owners of junk cars (Dave/Rex), someone who knows technical aspect of cars that will be able to see possible problems in platforms in addition in addition to Travis, Rex and Dave. an asshole that will push for progress (Travis), and someone who is responsible/has time to keep the committee on track.
Under no circumstances will I take part in any comittee. I lost an election to a freshman who made 1 meeting the entire semester...this tells me that the club as a whole doesn't want me in a leadership role. All I'll do is make suggestions, and help carry out what the club decides to do. But Dave and Rex sound like good comittee people to me.
