A good source of lighting (preferably powered by CR123 "10 year" batteries) simply CANNOT be understated as a requirement, not an option for this kind of thing. You won't be able to buy a surefire for 60 bucks but (well maybe you can?) but I love the CR123 battery for powering flashlights.

We use these at work and they are awesome flashlights. Super bright but also have a low light setting and a strobe setting. Impact and water resistant. Mine's held up really well. The break away lanyard that comes with it is junk though.
