my take on things is to center our attention on keeping the weight down, not the power up. i also think rwd should be a priority, mostly for the drag competition...especially since we probably wont have drag slicks to put on a fwd car that would make up for the initial loss of traction off the line compared to a rwd car (driver skill not taken into account when launching).
i like the V8 rx7 or 240-280 Z, using a 5.0 from the rustang...its a good basic engine with solid torque. its been done a few times, and the chassis is light and supports a huge aftermarket.
i also like the V8 merkur. domestic stuff is plentiful and cheap, and Pete has mad crazy experience with this platform and could provide some wisdom
i think we should avoid a mid engined car, like the old wedgie mr2. if shit blows up and we have to dig through the engine bay it will be a service nightmare. plus they are not the easiest to deal with at the limit, like in the autocross.
i also think we should be careful about boost. there's alot of plumbing to leak and alot of peripheral equipment we will need to source if the car is to have the boost bumped up or if we are boosting an NA motor (intercooler, manifold, HG, boost controller, blow off/recirc valve, injectors, etc)
i think we have alot of very knowledgable people in this club who can put together a crazy car...but i want the first priority to be finishing, not blowing stuff up 8)
