It looks like R34 GTRs in Aussieland (I haven't looked in NZ but I'm pretty sure they sold a lot of them there too) are like $49k-70k USD:

Depending on how difficult / expensive the process is to paperwork it here in the US, when these become legal it probably makes more sense to buy a plane ticket to Japan and buy one / ship it back. I read an article about Japanese car owners a while back and how they don't generally like to buy and drive old vehicles even if they are collectible, they aren't seen as cool. It supposedly keeps the used car market there pretty soft
