The old f150 at least has a bunch of mounting tabs in them if I recall. If you took and left them off, you'd have a bunch of little holes in your rails. Some trucks also don't look right without them. :dunno: about Gm's though.
The tail gate thing is kind of interesting. I've never been into hypermiling cause I'm usually foot to floor whenever I have something with a v8 or the powerful engine option....ok well always but if you've ever had trash in your bed and watched it the wind kinda bounces off the tailgate and pushes back against the cab. Wonder if it gives you a little push or something. But like most and Ryan plans, a bed cover eliminates that all together.
