The tires thread "So I need tires..."
Senor_Taylor Wrote:So, I'm not going to buy a 200 TW tire because I don't want to worry about my tires being bald before I graduate. Anything is better than what's on my car now, so I'm looking at BFG Sport Comp 2s or Yokohama S Drives.

The sport comp 2 is a 340 TW and the S Drive is 300. The ratings for the BFG is better, but the consensus is that if I autocross occasionally, the lower TW rating will hold up better? In the next year I can only imagine <10 autocross events so I can't imagine I would destroy a set.

Keep in mind that in reality, TW is meaningless. A tire manufacturer can put whatever they want on the side of the tire. A 200 TW tire (like the one we told you to buy), would actually last longer than the tires you mentioned for your intended use. You'd be surprised how quickly you'll burn through a set while autcrossing (the higher TW tire). My brother put the Dunlop Star Spec's on his Miata and after 15k street miles, several track days and more autocrosses than I can count, they are just starting to get to the point of needing replacement (mostly do to uneven wear caused by the camber/toe his car has).

I've had both of the tires you are asking about and neither are going to be a good autocross tire. I'd go S-drive before I went Sport Comp just based on how they handle dry/wet conditions.
