Well, hooray for using the right tool for the job. I was able to get the bolts out after all - they weren't stripped when using the triple square. Got the driver axle back in - lost one of the CV bolts so I need to go get that one. No idea where it could have gone. The next major annoying thing, at 10:45 at night, I discovered the passenger side axle nut is the wrong MFing size - so i'm dead in the water til I go buy a 24mm socket. I guess someone has already done this project once before.
