Had a new Beetle rental this past weekend in NorCal.

Pros:
- Enjoyable little 1.8T. Good torque, lovely turbo whistle. Surprising amount of pep. The first time I really got on it I had to get on it a second time to make sure I wasn't just feeling things.
- Decent handling. Came shod with some high aspect tires, which handled pretty well and had the added bonus of soaking up a lot of the absolute horrid roads they have.
- Space. It had a fairly proper trunk. We also fit an adult comfortably in the back.
- Functional, basic interior. It's not going to win any awards, but it ergonomically made sense and didn't take away from the experience at all. Too many cars do so this is a plus to me.
Cons:
- Rear visibility was pretty garbage. Long-term I'd probably remove the rear headrests. Tiny rear window, big headrests, massive c-pillars. I did a lot of turning my head.
- Sunroof should come standard.
- BT and a USB port should come standard.
- Not much sound deadening.
All in all, this car sucked less than the All-Road I had a few weeks back. It's an entirely different car, but rating them for what they are, I'd give the nod to the Beetle.
