Hello all,
I am running for the officer position of secretary for the 2016-2017 school year and hope you will all consider me when placing your vote.
A little bit about myself:
My name is Ryan Allen. I am currently a sophomore at JMU in pursuit of a B.S. in Geographic Science with a dual concentration in applied geographic information systems and environmental conservation, sustainability, and development. I also have a minor in humanitarian affairs. I am scheduled to graduate next year but plan to attend JMU for two more years to enjoy the college experience and community with the added pleasure of not having to take six classes a semester. I am a very sociable person with great organizational skills and like everything to be planned and organized in advance to minimize headache, frustration, and unforeseen consequences.
My automotive career began a while back when I lived in California due to my dad’s military career. The base allowed for me to ride and race dirt bikes which then led into my interest in cars once we moved to the east coast. I picked up my 86’ Camaro the summer after my first year of high school and that’s where the adventure began. The car has now been completely worked over with no bolt being left to itself. It currently sits with a ls1/4l60e awaiting a t56 swap when the finances allow it.
Why me?
I joined Madison Motorsports at the begging of this school year through coincidentally seeing a MM sticker on a white mustang of which peaked my interest. I did not know the club existed before this point and became highly interested. I am unsure of if this oversight was my own doing or if the clubs presence on campus was less than adequate at the time. Either way I hope to increase our outreach to the JMU and Harrisonburg communities.
I hope to bring an organizational and supportive presence to the club, which can allow the other officers to focus more on their responsibilities while allowing me to keep them and the club organized throughout the school year.
I have led class projects in nearly all of my classes and have been selected for program awards throughout my career. I pride myself on being timely, organized, and a leader for my fellow peers.
As far as improvements for the club, I am hoping to advocate the use of the google calendar and take a poll of who use it or would like to use it as a clear way to have everyone in the club on the same page for events, meetings, and any other club functions. I have been noticing that many of our less formal events such as cruises and meetings are more on the fly rather than organized. I feel that if we could schedule these in advance, alongside little afternoon cruises here and there, we could provide members with more of a heads up so that they could provide insight into the amount of people we can expect to show up. I also plan to provide a forum that will provide minutes for all classroom meetings so that those unable to attend will be able to know what was discussed.
The ideas stated above are merely the begging of what I hope to achieve in the position of secretary with Madison Motorsports. If anyone has any questions or concerns please let me know and I will answer promptly. The forum, email, phone, or Facebook messenger are all great ways to get in touch with me. 540-323-1782
P.S. I am going to be more active on the forums in the coming months seeing as the school load will lessen. Currently six class projects are providing constant work and stress, which will be alleviated soon.
