having been immersed in the subaru world for the last 8 years (damn has it been that long!?) you can, in fact have this...in a swapped car. the STi 2.0 you're referring to is the EJ207. the ways in which it does not suck include forged internals, big port head, a twin scroll, and 8200rpm ceiling, stock. its a great engine and it blows my mind that subaru was retarded enough to screw us out of it....apparently because 'mericans need torks, or whatever.

the downside is (A) you're getting a used JDM engine that (B) has almost certainly been driven hard and © is only available on a wooden pallet or in a swapped car. if you buy a properly swapped vehicle its not AS bad, because people have been swapping this engine in for years and years. however, you're going to have to pay for it and at that point you can just get a nicer car that makes more power stock, for about the same price.

i know you've owned an evo as well, and frankly i don't think any subaru is going to make you happy after experiencing that car. the evo is simply a better car from a driver's standpoint. the only thing subarus have going for them in comparison is cheaper cost and maybe a little less weight.

Oh yeah I know all about those. I looked into the swap a while back. I just don't like the idea of swapping in a motor that parts won't be readily available for.

As far as the 996 thing goes, I just don't really like the way those look enough for me to want to deal with the downsides that come with them.

Edit: Well, the 996 with the aero kit isn't so bad, but again how bad is the maintenance on these compared to something like an E46 M3? How reliable are they in general? I haven't ever looked into porsches at all.
