if you're willing to do some preventative maintenance upfront, and don't mind the goofy headlights, porsche 996 C2's are currently the deal of the century at less than $20k buy-in for a decent one and under $15k on one that might need work.
there is no getting around that the engine is a time bomb if you miss out on changing a few key components like the IMS bearing and some tensioners, but man...its a rear engined legend. that said, if you just want to drive and not throw money at it there are better alternatives.
