You guys know you're watching True Detective, right? Everyone loses.

I don't know if there has been enough precedent set to make that statement though. In S1, yeah, they didn't get *all* the bad guys, but Rust came out happier in the end realizing he wanted to live. I wasn't pissed about what happened to Frank and Ray in a happy vs. sad ending way, rather as Polen said they screwed up each character's ending in just bizarre ways. The whole desert mirage thing was lame, and the fact that Frank got bumped off by some minor characters after a drug dealing squabble that we cared not at all about...weak. And Ray, well, he made some dumb final moves that weren't terribly believable, and clipped wing bad-cop-guy somehow got a whole hit squad together of *more* dirty (diamond-related?) cops? Whatever.
