Good on you for getting the bigger A/T radiator. The aftermarket full-aluminum ones tend to all be the larger size (in case you're a poor soul with an automatic NA Miata... heaven help you but at least the motor can stay cool) and I always felt that extra capacity was a good thing.
FYI the lifters will tick after any overnight sitting, not just timing belt service sort of work. Oil drains out as you said, and it takes a minute or two for them to get re-lubed. No big deal, just be prepared for a bit of "oh shit is there oil in this thing" until you get used to it.
