I think getting people to hang out casually like that is something that only happens if you're truly true friends, and that's something that takes time and can't be forced. We can definitely give them a push, though.

Yeah, now you're getting into a "chicken and egg" scenario. People won't hang out if they aren't friends, but they won't be friends unless you provide them with a venue to get to know each other.

Keep up the BBQs, Top Gear nights, etc etc but I think some level of on-campus would help significantly in getting freshmen involved early on. The bus system can be confusing when you are new to JMU/Harrisonburg, so why not provide an option every other week that's both fun and walkable?
