I do know it is like a taste of "what you can't do" at the time so it's not very accessible right now. I don't think there is any way around this. How about encouraging students to do the VIR Kart Enduro with alumni?
I honestly think based on this past weekend, emphasis on Verona Autocrosses should be pushed hard and maybe trips a little further out to autocrosses in different areas? Capital Driving Club does one in Winchester, about an hour from JMU. Its accessible, anyone can do it, and it's honestly how I got started. Get em started on that "gateway drug" and itll blossom from there. People who are excited and participate only garner more excitement to friends.
Basically what I am saying, I know we have been beating the track drum but maybe emphasize more accessible motorsports for current students. (not saying abandon track stuff), but to push karting/autox a bit more heavily. I have noticed this past year many students coming and just sitting in a chair checking their phone at the track. Yes they have some fun, but they don't actively get to do stuff. Karting at the track, or autocross might get them to come more.
I see what you're saying with VIR not being accessible right now, and I agree, but the group that went down in March still had a great time even though we weren't able to drive. I also think working is a great way to get involved at VIR - I stood at pit in the entire weekend but I felt more involved than I had before. I think it becomes more do-able for older members, I'm sure everyone saw the facebook posts after this weekend. I think the Kart Enduro would be a great time, but that looks like something we would have to start later in the year or next season.
I agree with what you say though, this past Sunday released a lot of endorphins in a lot of members, and I hope to see that continue.
