The Long Awaited: The Myth, The Legend, The Douchebaggery

Well, almost. 98%.

On Friday Jake and I scrambled to get his car running for the show, then went back to my place and he helped me put the hood back on and provided emotional support while I put coolant and oil in, wondering if it was all going to end up on my shoes.

Funny note about the hood, I had to move the hinges to install the new cowl so I figured it'd take me an hour of fiddling to get it aligned mostly right. I'll be damned if it didn't end up better than when I took it off. :dunno:

On Saturday I had the great pleasure of discovering that the long tube headers will not go back on the car if all of the header studs are in place. You can almost get the front one on but it hits the motor mount right when you try to slip it over the studs.

I could've pulled all the studs back out of the head but 1.) That would've sucked, 2.) All the hardware is old and worn out, 3.) We have to pull them again on Tuesday to weld the flanges on, so instead I went and bought this.

Just so I could do this.

Ugh.

I finished up the new intake on Sunday and did my first test start. The IAC hose had gotten pulled out so it ran like crap on the first start. Then after I reconnected it the throttle seemed a little delayed or jumpy, but only at first, so I'm guessing it was just learning the new chip. I did one last start and it kicked over right away and went to a smooth idle.

The car is all packed up and ready to go to the shop on Tuesday.

Things still to do:

1.)Weld flanges on
2.) Finish bleeding cooling system
3.) Replace clutch/brake pedal bushings
4.)I'm not crazy about the location of the new air filter. Might try a different tube and/or relocate the oil separator (the MAF is hitting it). Redesigning the heat shield so I can fit the alternator duct on wouldn't be a bad idea either.
5.) Give it a well deserved bath and drive. Smile
