I'm sure you can figure this out for yourself depending on what she likes to do with it, but I'd recommend the non-mini if you're replacing a laptop. The mini is too small to sit lap-distance away, still see and browse comfortably. Now if she's going to use it as an e-reader or take it on trips, sure go mini.
