i was in court for this, i've talked to lawyers... i'm passing on the info i know. you run something that isn't stock, you get a ticket... quite simple.

1. I think G. was referring to the fact it was dumb that the cop gave you a ticket for the numbers and exhaust, not that you had it.

If so, I'm sorry G. You got to spell some things out for me.

2. The law says that a muffler can't make noise in excess of OEM equipment. This law is completely subjective and unjust. Travis, you should go to court and say so. If you DO go to court, especially if you show that you are a responsible driver (by showing your driving record) you may have your fines reduced. In addition, you could say that your exhaust is designed to be a performance stock replacement, and meets the most strict objective standards for noise in the country, and that you shouldn't be ticketed just because a police officer had nothing better to do that harass someone who has worked hard to make their car nice. And I'd say exactly that. What do you have to lose?

I've done this before. Doesn't help. I will point out that the cop said, and I quote, "Can you please start your engine and give it about 2k rpm. When I pulled you over I had my windows up and I couldn't hear it." That is literally what the motherfucker said...how can it be excessive if he CANNOT hear it while driving right behind me...

Haha. Please motherfucker, just because the turbo doesn't kick in until 4k rpm doesn't mean you'd have a chance. It might look slow.....but when does vtec engage? That's what I thought....more of a wait, less power. Until you b00st it that is.

I wonder how your defense would turn out if you measured your exhaust with a decibel meter before and after you installed your exhaust. I imagine you could say "2Db increase is hardly "excessive", don't you agree, your honor?" I wonder what would happen? After all, a police officer doesn't carry around an decible meter, so he can hardly say that an exhaust is "excessively" louder than stock.

I know man. But the thing is, one person can't go into court and make this arguement. Action, like writing the governor, needs to be taken by all of us and big money like SEMA needs to be involved if this kind of shit is ever going to stop.

The thing is...these are like 25 dollars a piece plus 54 dollars in court fees. I'm not worried about 150 or so dollars, especially because fixing them will have it dropped down to just the 54 dollar court fee.

But...I hope to point out how lame the entire proceedings are. Would I have been pulled over if I was in an 86 IROC with off road pipes, NO front tags and a huge number 8 sticker across the rear windshield?? Of course not. My goal is to get the court fees dropped by quoting the officer on how he couldn't even hear my exhaust while he was in his car pulling me over, and by showing the judge how ridiculous the thing with the stickers is (they are track numbers....I run 111 mph quarter mile trap speeds with them on...how can they obstruct my view??) Do I expect to lose these arguments...of course. But I will make them.
