Ok so it sounds like the hard shifting issue I'm having is actually fairly common with APR and REVO tunes. A lot of people were saying that they only got the hard shifts before reaching full boost or when shifting lower in the RPM range. Mine will do it when indicating full boost, but I did realize that I have a habit of changing gear before 4k in this car because 1.) All the power is available at 2k once the snail scrolls up anyway and 2.) it sounds shit miserable about having to rev too close to the redline.
I stood on it on the way home yesterday and shifted at 5500 and it pocked into the next gear just like you'd expect. Because I refuse to pay $500 for a DSG tune, the new rule is <10lbs of boost and shift anywhere or >10lbs of boost and run all the way through the gear. Simple enough. :dunno:
I hate to admit it, but I think I've been enjoying the improved fuel economy from the tune more than the extra power. For the past week I've been commuting using extreme hypermiling techniques, I always shoot to average 28mpg over my ~8 mile, traffic heavy commute and it's surprisingly challenging sometimes, catching the wrong stoplights can easily cost 4mpg over such a short distance.
