So my guys ordered both thermostats listed for the car on WorldPac. Neither of them fit. Went to the dealer, turns out thermostats and water pumps are VIN# specific for some fuckin' retarded reason. (I thought VW was doing the whole modular platform/drivetrain thing :?: ) Went back to the shop, jiggled the existing thermostat around, put it back in and replaced the ECT. It's been acting normal so it seems like we got lucky and it was the ECT causing the issue, but if it acts up again they'll get the right thermostat and stick it in for me.

Next up on the docket is an oil change/tire rotation/seafoam/brake bleed sort of tune up. I'm currently at 70k and it's due at 72k but I might knock it out early if I have time.

I think mine did that because we immediately turned leaving the neighborhood, so it unloaded a wheel. In a straight line, it's "okay," but as Stephen said, the turns are pretty disappointing.

The VW will light up whichever side is unloaded too, completely different sensation than stomping on the throttle in the M3 with the wheel turned.

Once I sort through some of this minutia I've been thinking about getting it tuned, the idea of 300ft-lbs to get me on the highway in the morning is just too intoxicating.

it is good fun, I have to try and make my way down sometime so you can give mine a whirl.

Speaking of which, my buddy who can get me the cheap tune is quitting his job and leaving the shop at the end of the month. I wanted to wait until fall if I was going to do it, but now I need to decide whether or not I want to spend the money in the next week or two before the window of opportunity closes.
