Are you sure it doesn't already make a shitton of torque and then 2 shittons of power up top, which is skewing your perception? That same M6 neighbor I mentioned in the other thread always bitched that the V10 really needed to be wrung out compared to the more usable torque of the old V8 M5s. When I drove it I thought he was nuts.
It was unsettlingly quick at 2k, downright scary at 5k and I peed a little after 7500.
Those little turbo 4-pots aren't too shabby though! That's what I love about the Kia and GTI, both give 30+ mpg mileage on the highway and both pour their little hearts out for you at 1900rpms. The GTI is definitely not a "fast" car, especially on the highway, but around down in 2nd or 3rd gear it squeezes the most out of that 220ft-lbs and can really scoot through traffic, which is how I use it 99.99% of the time.
