Damn direct injection.

When I pulled the manifold off the VW there was so much build up it had to be constricting airflow. I've seafoamed it at least twice since I've had it, and did my best to scrub/scrape/vacuum the gunk out of the valves when I had the manifold off. All of this before 65k miles, I should probably think about doing it again... My E36 on the other hand has sparkly clean, honey colored valves at 185k miles. :roll:

Yeah I'm going to buy a media blaster if I can't find someone that has one and use walnut shells to clean them off like the BMW dealers will do if you give them 800 dollars. Seems fairly simple. Just rotate the crank so the valves are closed when you're blasting that particular one so you don't get walnut chunks in the cylinder.

But yeah, a catch can will help prevent a lot of this once you get them cleaned off well.
