Well I was going to do the install of JB4 + intakes and the Active Autowerke charge pipe and blow off valve yesterday, but the JB4 and intake package didn't get delivered because UPS wanted a signature.

Either way, I went ahead and installed the charge pipe and blow off valve in preparation. Install took a little longer than it should've just because this was the first time I've taken anything apart in the engine bay so there is always that little learning curve when you're figuring out how things come apart.

While on some platforms it's not good to run an actual blow off valve, on these it doesn't hurt performance at all since they have MAP sensors rather than MAF's. The factory charge pipe and diverter valves tend to leak if you up the boost at all so an aftermarket charge pipe and blow-off valve is necessary. You can get diverter valves that go back into the intake like the factory set up, but they are more expensive. Plus the PSSSHHHHHH noise brings joy to my ricer heart.

This BOV is fairly loud, but inside with the radio on a normal level you don't hear it at all driving normally. It will likely get some "WTF is that a turbo'd BMW" looks from people outside though. It should still be less attention than I got with the Evo IX so it's all good.

One thing I did notice is that I definitely need an oil catch can. The factory charge pipe was coated in oil so I can only imagine how much is setting in the bottom of the intercooler. I guess I'll install one whenever I get around to pulling the intake manifold to clean off the intake valves. Damn direct injection.
