The setting I picked out also has a wedding band that clips onto it for another ~$500. She'll wear just the engagement ring until we're married, then snap the other piece on and boom, wedding ring. I'm fine saving up a few G's for a piece of jewelry that represents our commitment to each other and that we'll have for the rest of our lives. I do think people that still use the 3-mo salary rule are insane. 3 months of my gross income is more than I could hope to save in a year. Thank you NOVA living expenses.
I want a small, cheap wedding but I know I'm not going to get it. She wants both of our extended families and a large group of friends there and I don't think she realizes how many zeros that sticker is gonna have on it.
