I'm surprised the Evo doesn't use any. My neighbor's M6 with 50k miles goes through a quart per change. The M3 has always had a tendency to use up some oil too, I usually top it off once or twice between changes. It actually took 3/4 of a quart last weekend which seemed excessive even for it. I don't think my 325i or Saab used a significant amount between changes.
If I do replace my MKV with a low-miles MKVI, I'll probably budget for a catch can to keep the intake from choking up on me (especially after seeing the carnage in mine at 63k), since I'll want to make that car last me quite a while, it'll be interesting to see how fast the thing fills up.
