I have the BSW kit and upgraded to the stock HK speaker amp, which is a great all-round solution, but it's obviously really expensive. I think I'm having issues with my headunit because I'm not getting sound to all of the speakers and I've already checked the wiring and replaced the amp.
As far as a brand, I'd just see what gets the best reviews on crutchfield and go from there. I've always been partial to kenwood, but if the $300 head unit I bought 4 years ago actually is broken, that dampens that enthusiasm a bit.
