I have such a thing for those right now. I was practically licking the window of a '13 at Sterling BMW last week when I was hunting for some parts. Definitely considering a CPO one to replace the MKV if the MKVII doesn't blow my skirt up enough to pay new car prices.
Or if I end up living really close to the office, I might buy something weird, old and cool for cash that won't depreciate and will only cost me maintenance.
Speaking of which, how many miles do you expect to put on this thing per year? If the A4 Avant is really what does it for you, just pick up a clean, lowish mileage B7 for well within your price range and use the extra cash to have it fixed when it breaks? They look like they are in the 18-22k range with less than 60k miles.
