almost a guarantee they modified the throttle map if its DBW. stock subies have the pedal mapped so that you get 70% of the throttle plate open in the first 40% of pedal movement and the rest of the pedal only opens the plate a small (basically inconsequential) amount thereafter. subaru wanted the cars to feel faster than they are and exagerate throttle response. Not exact numbers, but you get the point.
a lot of tuners will modify the throttle position tables to show a more linear throttle opening in relation to pedal position as if its mimicking a DBC car. i did this to mine and its one of my favorite mods despite adding no power at all.
