From what I can tell, VW only cares about how loud the thunk is when you close the door. At least that what their commercials stress.

I can validate this point

Mine has held up pretty well, minus the waterpump going at 16k.... and the fact that sometimes it doesn't start and lights up like an f-ing fire truck :dunno:
