Do college kids even care about cars?

This is true. The OG's (2000's) and a gen or two after had it damn good. 240SX's, DSM's, EG/EH/EJ civics all had double wishbone front suspensions. NA Supras were 10 grand. 300ZX TT's were 12. There were cheap cars, there was surplus cash, there were engines overnighted from Japan. All the ingredients for a tuner culture, the 60's all over again.

Now...not so much. The Industry has done all it can to make really GOOD cars that you can't touch. Every engine is tuned to its peak, or so complex to get power out of that no one wants to bother. Manifolds integrated into cylinder heads, turbochargers controlled by a computer that can't be tuned, or weird weak links that break as soon as you make 10hp over stock. Combine that with the mind-numbingly boring peoplemovers to be found on dealer lots today, the shithouse economy, ethanol fuel and this weird greenwashing iGeneration and...disaster. (Just like the 70's malaise)

Maybe we'll see it again, maybe not. :dunno: If we're going to be the last of our breed we should try to be the best.
