UPDATE Jan. 17th
Met with BBBS downtown this morning and spent a good hour speaking with the head of the program for Rockingham county as well as the marketing/ outreach head.
My match support specialist (who manages my match with my little brother) spoke with the two mentioned above previously before this first meeting and since day one it has pretty much been a green light from them! (learned of this today)
I will be working weekly with the program director and the outreach liaison to continue to organize how we will run this little event at the car show. Working out the details, liability matters etc. Note- BBBS has a school program and a community program- for the community program, littles are able to be picked up with their matches. I am currently doing both a mix of the school and community program with my little- basically once they have your license and insurance card....you are good to go. Something similar of this matter will need to occur for the drivers designated for the event in order to cover both BBBS and MM's butts should something bad happen.....which won't. These details and concerns will be hammered out over the next 10 to 12 weeks or so!
Jon and I will be SELECTIVE and work with BBBS to choose which individuals will drive. I will of course plan to have news coverage of this from BBBS corporate, local newspaper/ broadcast stations etc. We will make this a well known event!
I also have discussed with them that not only will we be giving back to the community by giving these children a once in a lifetime experience BUT WE ALSO have the intentions of fundraising a decent amount of funds to donate from MM to BBBS. This will begin TODAY with Jon and I contacting various businesses around H'burg to meet, tell them what we are doing and how to get involved.
This is going to be a great way for MM to cap off the year with an amazing and unique car show as well as an even more amazing way to give back and really show the community what MM is all about, safe, responsible JMU students with big hearts.
I will update here regularly with meeting minutes as well as a record of how much $ we have raised thus far- my target is at least $1,000, but I WANT to write a $1200 check to BBBS in April after all fundraising is said and done.
