have to factor in 15% higher fuel costs and significantly higher initial purchase price for deisel engine option.

it really makes no sense to me. i have no idea why you guys get so excited about it.

I have ran the numbers. Now that price on fuel is higher, the percentage difference reduces significantly (about half your quoted 15% at least locally). Going from my yukon denali that gets ~15mpg combined around town and ~13mpg towing, to 25mpg combined and 18-20mpg towing at about 18,000 miles a year it starts to make sense.

Combine with the higher resale value of a diesel, reliability of one....now you start making sense.
