Yeah, you're fine. Sounds like maybe the water pump and/or fan didn't go back on properly and tore itself apart, either that or you got a fluke defective part or something. Drain all the coolant out, flush the system a few times to make sure you get all the impeller chunks out and get a new WP and fan clutch/fan.
Everyone makes an expensive mistake once or twice, or ....more... just gotta fix it and keep on rollin.
