MR2 turbo, while a very fun car, might be a bit much handle on track until you get really used to it. Due to the mid-engine design, it tends to spin very easily and keep spinning (similar to a top), making for a very easy target for guardrails.
I will put a 2nd in for miatas and Hondas as great cars to learn on. If it is fun to drive, easy on parts, and cheap, that is the perfect track car IMO. Might look into my friend's integra in this FS section too; if I had the spare cash, I'd pick it up as a track car.
