Well there are a couple of different ways to look at what you're trying to accomplish.

-The Lude is a pretty good handling car but its the heaviest of the fwd performance Hondas. Still, it has the most torque and may be the easiest to drive around down. Practicality wise the EF/EG hatchbacks or the Integras have it beat, but it certainly is not a torturous car to live with.

RJ is right. Brakes and tires will wear more quickly on this car. Other than that its pretty solid

-If fwd is what you want I'd go for a DC2 or DA Integra. They're both lighter than the Prelude and don't really give up anything on handling. You'll also find a lot more aftermarket parts for them.

-The EF/EG hatches are good buys but I'd venture to say they're a bit overpriced because of the demand. I'd go for a CRX for what you'd pay for a good EG. Still, there are deals to be found.

I disagree with RJ on the speed thing. The stock hatches are slow enough that you may get bored with them. The Si models aren't bad though, and of course you can get a D16A6 engine for them for free probably.

-Three alternate choices for you would be a S13 240SX, naturally-aspirated FC RX-7, E30 BMW 325, or 90-93 Nissan Sentra SE-R. All four of those cars have their own peculiarites but they're reasonably priced and are reasonably fun.

For my money I would do the test driving thing and see what I like. I went with the DC2 Integra GS-R because it handles well, has a great transmission, and was just fast enough to be challenging without being too much for my skill level. Any of the aforementioned cars shouldn't be too much for you to handle if you're not stupid with them.
