yes you are exactly right!
F1 went through this exact same thought process back in the 80s when they ditched forced induction. The reasoning was that NA motors would be cheaper and more reliable. The opposite turned out to be true. You would think the FIA would learn.
what really bothers me about these rules is the "spec" transmission. transverse transmission. A flat-4 is not transverse mounted, which would force subaru to develop an I4 and completely re-engineer their cars. (and throw away one of their main marketing points)
FIA complains about decreased manufacturers in the series, then proceeds to slap the longest-standing supporter of WRC right in the face. I just dont get it.
