II'd say use NASA's resources so that you have a higher chance of it going smoothly and being successful. If you are going to have an autocross you're gonna need to get all of the cones and timing equipment. We don't currently own that stuff so we'd have to buy all of it, then find a place to store it. On top of that, I don't know how insurance and liability would work out but maybe that's not a problem.
My recommendation would be to have NASA or SCCA help us run the event the first time. After that we can decide if it's something worth investing in putting on by ourselves. At $3000 for everything I don't think it's an event we could make that much money on. Unless we made money on donations and/or concessions.
