The tires thread "So I need tires..."
Hmm, I guess I'll start then.

Option 2: Toyo R1Rs are great tires. For a car your size, and for most conditions they're as fast or faster than the RS3s. Probably around half of the lightweight street tire class cars use them. They don't like a ton of heat or weight. They're better in the rain and cool than RS3s. That's really all I got. They have 205/50 in the Star Spec for $108 at tirerack. Is that close enough? Since you aren't competing for any particular class this information probably doesn't matter much. If you wanna pony up the bux, they're awesome tires and they'll do what you want them to. If you're sure the RS3 isn't coming back, just get these so you don't waste the $ you just spent on wheels.

Option 3: The problem with option 3 is that r-compounds cycle out. There's probably a decent chance that driving around on the street will put enough heat into the tire to count as a cycle. The more cycles you get, the harder the tire will get. That means on the way to events you'll put a cycle into your tires, then another cycle at the event, then a third on the way home. It's not really a huge deal but the grip diminishes on a per cycle basis, and this is one of the reasons you see a lot of people who drive to/from events with tire trailers. This probably means that the tires will be harder than a top street tire before you wear them out, and certainly way before you would wear a top street tire out. R-comps also hate the cold. Really, really hate the cold. I've never driven on r-comps below 50 degrees, but I can't imagine its fun on the street. You probably won't kill yourself though. Save the r-compounds for when you buy a tire trailer or something.
